I'd been thinking about doing this song for a while and then ended up recording it as part of a challenge: I pitched to a friend that I would record my version of this song if he worked on one of his creative projects. We gave each other a month to complete our work. I lived up to my end of the wager, but he couldn't due to other factors going on in his life.

My version of "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" was mostly inspired by George Harrison's, though I knew I wanted it to be slower and moodier. Originally I was going to have my friend Larua Jean sing it, but decided to keep my vocals and invited her to sing with me. And that's how we got to where we are today.
